The Challenge of the French Cuisine

French cooking schools are considered by many to be the crème de la crème of cooking schools. Here, you can learn the art of cooking French cuisine and get to grips with the variety of techniques used in the world’s most revered cuisine. Perhaps this is why they are still the most popular cooking schools in the world. French cuisine has inspired the cuisine of other cultures and the way food is viewed, not to mention tasted, in general. Moreover, many of the skills taught in French cooking schools can be applied to other types of cooking with wonderful results.

How to Find a French Cooking School

You can find French cooking schools all over the world. Probably the most famous one in the United States is the French Culinary Institute in New York City. Many famous chefs have graduated from there, and the curriculum can be very demanding, even compared to other elite cooking schools. The variety of skills taught at such schools is very diverse, and can range from main dishes and side dishes to desserts and everything in between.

Self-taught

Most French cooking schools you find information on will be in a traditional setting. However, with the internet allowing more and more people access to information, it’s not surprising that you can find quite a few explanations and ideas for French cooking. These won’t be your regular French cooking schools, but more of a self-taught methodology.

Local Sources of Information

You may even be able to find information about French cooking schools at your local library. Often libraries will have DVDs or video tapes of cooking shows or cooking classes available. Even if your local library doesn’t have a video you are interested in checking out, in all likelihood, they can order it through inter-library loan from another library in your area.

Bright Lights, Big City

If you’re looking for more structure, there are plenty of French cooking schools available for interested students. These are usually in bigger cities though, so if you don’t happen to live in a city with such cooking schools already, some travel may be involved. If you are also interested in traveling, there are many French cooking schools abroad as well. Some of these French cooking schools involve classes, but also have a schedule that involves traveling to various sites and doing some sightseeing as well.

The Challenge; The Benefits

Even if you are an accomplished cook already, you are sure to broaden your range of dishes and technique at a French culinary institute. French gastronomy is enormous and includes a lot of regional variations, so depending on the origin of your teacher, there are untold recipes and styles to learn. In conclusion, if you feel you are ready for challenge, look up a few French cooking schools and see if it’s something for you.
